Part 3 Update

The third installment of LA is in the works. It has a lot of moving parts, so to speak, so I've created a big spreadsheet with all the elements that need to work together. I've also started writing some important scenes. Any ETA I guessed at now would be useless, so I'll refrain.

If you would like to nominate a name based on your lastfour, I'll include any I can make fit. There are a lot of ways to do this: use a math thing (like Sevens or Goldie) or a nomenclature reference (like Jumbo or Colt or Eve), or something tied to a date (like Arizona), or a personal characteristic (like Two-by-Four). Or roll your own. Just leave a comment or send me an email if you want to be immortalized in this obscure fashion.

  1. 3137 / Elliot
Bonus points if that works out as r3137 / Rev. Elliot
(or any such title that makes sense. I like the double-entendre with versioning system revision numbers and some formal title - what would be the PDA equivalent of a spiritual guide/Reverend? Maybe it is something like a concurrent version system, allowing you to store stable versions of your state. (Just brainstorming, I don't get it all connected yet.))

  2. You know it hadn't even occurred to me to use 1337 (leet)speak, I don't know why. Bear in mind that it's a certain demographic of humans that indulges in this conceit--viz., those lucky and rich enough to be part of the masked urban middle class. The PDAs might deny it, but there's a lot of Pinocchio-like yearning underneath the angst, and so they typically pick human given names plus some unique identifier, like Randy#000000 (a tip of the hat to the creator of Perl, by the way). The idea of "versioning" humans is interesting. Sort of like levels in RPGs. PDAs definitely have their religious leaders, philosophers, and political minds (like the 0x, of course). Thanks for the name--I'll see what I can do with it. Best!
